The BU Terriers have dominated the Beanpot for years.

Now most of our readers are probably wondering why the Voice did not have a story covering Boston University's Beanpot victory last week. Well, to quote Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White, "I don't care."

That is to say we, as Suffolk students, don't care. We don't care because Suffolk doesn't even get to participate in the tournament. Now I'm not saying we ooze with school spirit (how many of you have even been to a Suffolk sporting event?), but it's hard to enjoy a sport if you have no one to cheer for, especially in the professional championship-enriched decade we live in. If you think about it, ten years ago, we would have looked at the Beanpot like Christmas in February. Ten years ago, the Bruins, Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots would make the playoffs and disappoint us, or disappoint us by not making the playoffs. For that reason, when a chance to root for a championship tournament where every participant is from the same city, you take that chance.

But, these are the modern times. We have seen three Lombardi trophies, two World Series trophies, and a NBA Finals championship. Hell, even the Revolution have been the top dog in the Eastern Conference for years, and the Bruins (fingers crossed) are looking pretty good with a few months left in the season. When the Beanpot comes along...it's just not that exciting.

Now I'm not taking anything away from the Beanpot or the players that have participated in the tournament, but, there are only four contestants. It's not that dramatic when BU defeats Northeastern if they made up 50 percent of the tournament's contestants. If I told one of my friends in Florida that BU had won their 29th Beanpot, they would be impressed and probably think that BU men's hockey were the Yankees of college hockey.

If I told them that they're in the semifinals every year, they would stop listening.

So there is my excuse for not covering the Beanpot last week. You don't have to like it. Just keep thinking to yourself that I forgot to write an article and this is just cheap cop out to make up for my negligence. As White would say "I don't care."
