The Celtics-Bull series somehow got even better. In a double overtime classic the Chicago Bulls came out on top by three. The series is now tied up and essentially becomes a best of three series and game four has created some interesting storylines for Game 5.
Ben Gordon's Hamstring
Before his heroic three pointer in regulation to tie the game, Ben Gordon strained his hamstring which makes that shot even more remarkable considering the height he got to nail it. It seems like he will be fine considering he was on the floor but if there is some sort of damage that makes Gordon sit then that is a huge blow for the Bulls. He's taken over as the role of clutch scorer and is very capable of blowing up for another 40, maybe even a 50 piece against the Celtics.
Rondo vs. Rose Round 1
No matter what the outcome of the series, people will look back and see this as the foundation of an incredible rivalry between Rajon Rondo and Derrick Rose. After being outclassed in Game 1 by Rose, Rondo has been playing out of his mind by averaging a triple double (23.3 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 10.0 apg) this series and already has two triple doubles. The last perseon to do that was some white guy named Larry Bird in 1986. Oh and he's done it all on a sprained ankle too. Rose has a respectable 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists but he's being burnt by Rondo. These two are going to be battling for not only these two, maybe three games, but for the next decade.
Big Baby Still Growing
Glen Davis is having a great start to his career. He's won a ring in his rookie year. He's become a very good role player on the bench. He's become loved in Boston. But he's been put in the tough spot of replacing Kevin Garnett in the starting lineup. He's done a decent job averaging 17 points and 8 boards a game but the Ticket Stub, as he called himself before the series, is having some inconsistent shooting, most notably going 4-16 in Game 4. Now he's doing good on the little things like setting screens (Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro called him an offensive linemen) but he needs to help in the post and create his point opportunities from there. I've seen a lot of Big Baby mid range jumpers these past four games and considering that Kendrick Perkins is the C's only low-post threat right now, having Baby down low would be great.
Bench Becoming Disappointing
The Celtics bench has been flat out awful. Granted the C's are without 2 of their role players as Leon Powe is out indefinitely with a torn ACL and meniscus and Davis is in the starting lineup. But Eddie House hasn't been getting any looks, Stephon Marbury still looks rusty, and Mikki Moore apparently starts every game with two fouls. On the bright side, it's great to see Brian Scalabrine out there playing as he's been battling concussions and he is needed for his defense and his occasional three. Still, the bench needs to start playing better. At this point, seeing Bill Walker play would be interesting and probably be a positive.
Joakim Noah and Brad Miller Have Become the Villains
Last year during the incredibly frustrating yet amazing series between the Hawks and C's, I don't think I hated anyone more then Zaza Pachulia and Al Horford. I hated how they scored, the way they carried themselves, the swagger- just everything they did. Horford did it by doing all the dirty little moves and Pachulia was just being dirty and stupid. In Game 1 Horford's former teammate, Joakim Noah, was doing all those dirty little things. Kevin Garnett probably wants to give him a left hook to the face. Then, in Game 4, Brad Miller badly overreacted on a shooting foul by Big Baby Davis in which he threw what appeared to be a closed fisted slap. I called it such because it definitely wasn't a punch. Maybe he should look at this old highlight when he played against Shaq to see how to throw a punch.
