JMS at DC
J. Michael Straczynski is going to make DC fans very happy this summer. After signing an exclusive deal with DC after finishing his memorable run on "Thor" at Marvel, JMS started his run on "Brave and the Bold."
But like any writer, one book isn't enough. With #701 for "Superman" and #601 for "Wonder Woman," JMS will be taking over the writing duties for both series. Many will remember JMS's legendary run on "The Amazing Spider-Man" from 2001-2007, incorporating many mystical enemies but really grasping the emotional angle of Peter Parker.
JMS is one of the best writers in the comic book industry, and fans of both series should feel incredibly lucky. It's nice to see him take over some big name books, as that's where his real talent shines. His work on "Brave and the Bold" has revitalized an old genre in team up books. He also made Aquaman somewhat cool again, which is an amazing feat that is worth noting.
"Superman" could go for a boost, as the recent slump from storylines like "War of New Krypton" and the upcoming "War of the Supermen" has been bogging down the once great franchise. "Wonder Woman" has been doing great and the addition of JMS will only boost readership, and maybe help her finally appear in a movie of her own.
O.M.I.T.
Ok, I decided to add another main part this week. Something has been bothering me since it was announced at the Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) in Seattle a few weeks ago.
Joe Quesada, editor in chief at Marvel, released a trailer that had the letters O.M.I.T. on it. The back round was black, with the letters in white. That's it, nothing more other than Quesada would be writing with one of the regular "The Amazing Spider-Man" artists, Paolo Rivera, and that whatever it is it will be happening in July.
Some are saying it might reverse the "Brand New Day" status quo in "The Amazing Spider-Man." This seems a little too farfetched. The status quo was too thought out by the biggest names at Marvel to reverse just three years later. Many are guessing it means "One Moment In Time." Readers, any thoughts? I'm confused as anyone and open to any thoughts. Either way, we will find out next month when the solicitations come out for July.
Movie Time
Chris Evans is officially Captain America. Now we can look forward to "The Avengers" and the rest of those movies. He signed a nine picture deal like Samuel L. Jackson did for his character Nick Fury.
The first "Scott Pilgram v.s The World" was released and it looks awesome. The weird appearance of the sound affects is a welcomed look, and looks to be hilarious.
Trade/Series For Newcomers
I'm in a JMS mood, so I'll recommend the first edition of his run on "The Amazing Spider-Man." To try and understand who Peter Parker truly is emotionally, look at this volume. The humor is great and his hold on the Peter/MJ relationship is unmatched.

Highlights for 3/31/10
DC
-Blackest Night #8. Do I really need to give you a reason to recommend this? The biggest event of the year ends here. Sinestro is going to try and kick Nekron's ass. Should be fun.
-Detective Comics #863. Batwoman's story is still intriguing and worth being in anyone's pull list. With the market overloaded with Batman books now, it's hard to figure out what to buy. But this, you won't be disappointed.
Marvel
-Fantastic Four #577. Jonathan Hickman's run on "Fantastic Four" is loaded with scientific gibberish that gives it a B-movie feel. But it works so well and his run is destined to be one of the best in the history of the book.
-Punisher #15. Rick Remender continues his strange "Franken-Castle" arc, and it comes to its penultimate issue. I say strange in a good way since we have never seen Frank Castle this way. It's a good look for him, and it makes the future look bright for the ruthless vigilante.
-X-Men: Second Coming #1. The beginning of the big event for the X-Books this year. Hope has returned with Cable from the future and it's time for Cyclops to decide if Hope is worth saving.
