This may come as a surprise to no one, but the animators at Pixar Studios have got another hit on their hands with "Toy Story 3;" and although it isn't set to be released until June 18th, this past Wednesday some college students got the chance to preview a cliffhanger screening of the highly anticipated sequel.
The preview took place at Loews Theater in Boston Common, and the college kids mirrored young children in the way they carried on, hollering and squealing with excitement and delight. It's been fifteen years since we were first introduced to "Toy Story" and the characters have become something like old friends. After all, this movie was an integral part of our childhoods and the nineties.
In "Toy Story 3," Andy is headed off to college and Woody and the gang aren't quite sure where they're headed when he goes. We're introduced to a variety of new toys as quirky and entertaining as the original bunch we grew up with. However, some of these toys aren't as nearly endearing.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the third installment is ripe with plot twists, a fantastic screenplay and the crafty kind of humor that adults are more likely to appreciate – that flair has been synonymous with both Pixar and Disney for years now.
Unlike the "Shrek" series, which is embarking on its fourth (and hopefully final) installment this summer, "Toy Story 3" is more likely to win the approval of both audiences and critics. While the concept may seem unoriginal, the film plays out beautifully, reinforcing the idea that Pixar can turn any concept into a refreshing and trademark story line.
This preview of the cliffhanger screening was free. But on June 18th, it'll be worth every penny to join Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Andy's toys on this last adventure.
