What team do you think will win this year's World Cup

What had started with 32 teams has now been cut in half and only 16 remain.  The motto now is, “win or go home”.

(06/26) Uruguay vs. Korea

These are two really good teams who showed a lot of talent in the first round.  This match can go either way but I think that Uruguay is playing solid soccer to give up a loss this early.  Uruguay wins and advances to the quarterfinals.

(06/26) USA vs. Ghana

We can call the USA lucky for being in this situation, but regardless they won their group and are playing Ghana instead of playing Germany.  The US has played pretty well but in order to win they need to capitalize on all the opportunities they create.  I think Ghana has a good team with a lot of talent and speed that will benefit them.  As the only African country in the tournament, expect Ghana to play hard.  Ghana wins and advances to the quarterfinals.

(06/27) Germany vs. England

This may be one of the best matches in this round of 16.  Germany is a great team that set off the tournament with a dominant 4-0 victory, while England started it with an unexpected draw against the US.  England has a lot of talent on their team but hasn’t played that way so far.  I expect them to come out strong and prove to the world why they were one of the favorites to win the tournament.  England wins and advances to the quarterfinals.

(06/27) Argentina vs. Mexico

If anybody remembers, this is a rematch of four years ago.  In those four years a lot have changed but I still believe Argentina will win.  Mexico has been playing well but when you have such a talented team on the field such as Argentina, it will be hard to contain them for 90 minutes.  Argentina wins and advances to the quarterfinals.

(06/28) Netherlands vs. Slovakia

This may perhaps be an easy game for the Netherlands as they dominated the first round.  Never count any team out because we have seen a lot of surprises, but I think the Netherlands should win this game easily.  Netherlands win and advance to the quarterfinals.

(06/28) Brazil vs. Chile

Chile played some great soccer in the first round and nearly won that group, but at the end Spain was too much for them.  Look for Brazil to dominate the game and try to get the easy goals.  Brazil has too much of a great team to be disappointed this early.  Brazil wins and advances to the quarterfinals.

(06/29) Paraguay vs. Japan

This will be an evenly played match as both teams play identically.  Paraguay and Japan both impressed me in the first round so it will come down to what team has more endurance, and I think Japan will win that battle due to their speed.  Japan wins and advances to the quarterfinals.

(06/29) Spain vs. Portugal

I believe it is true when they say that they save the best for last.  This may be the best match of the whole tournament starring two great teams with many superstars.  Spain got off to a slow start but now they seem to be back on track.  Portugal was not too impressive in the tournament as they tied two games, but we can’t forget the 7-0 victory over North Korea.  Each team can be playing better and expect them to give it their all in this game.  Spain has too much talent on their team and I think Portugal will have a hard time keeping up with them, but look for it to be a great game that comes down to the wire.  Spain wins and advances to the quarterfinals.
