In August, the owner of Café Quattro, Evan Butland, received an eviction notice stating he had 30 days to move his business out of its Somerset St. location of seven years. Since then, he has actively been working to find a place for the business.

Café Quattro has been as much a part of the Suffolk University campus as the residence halls or library. With a great location, friendly service and one-quarter of a pizza for the low price of $3, there was not much for a college student to complain about.

When [the lease] ran out, I was actively trying to renew it,” said Butland, a Revere native. “They kept telling me not to worry about it ... I tried so hard to stay an extra semester, but we were backed into a corner.”

Butland is also looking into expanding the menu as he moves the business. Former restrictions kept him from having little more than a pizza oven. In a new location he hopes to get the use of a full kitchen and is working with his friend to incorporate a fresh pasta bar as well as use his former sauté experience.

We’re not going away,” Butland said. “We miss being there, but the wheels are in motion.”

The support that Suffolk has given Butland and Café Quattro is well deserved. Butland graduated from Suffolk in 2004 with a degree in Management, and is now looking toward the future of his business. With locations opening up around the city constantly, he is trying to focus on staying in the downtown Boston area where he already has a strong clientele.

But let it be known that Suffolk has not forgotten about Café Quattro.

Since the announcement came that they had to leave Somerset St., they've gained almost 200 additional “fans” to their Facebook page, as well as many comments giving them support during this transition.

We’ve had so many Facebook hits, it makes the situation a little better,” Butland said.

Though Butland estimates it will probably take the full semester before Café Quattro is running again, it will come back with a fresh menu and the same friendly faces Suffolk has grown to enjoy.
