A Message from SGA President, Brian LeFort (6.5.08)
Issue date: 6/5/08 Section: Student Government Update

The E-Board for next year has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming year. The first order of business is Orientation. We will have a table and a representative from the Student Government Association at each Orientation fair. It is my hope that we utilize this time to attract some interest from incoming students. I believe that the SGA is a great way to get involved around campus. In addition to Orientation, incoming students, as well as current students, will be able to attend an open forum to learn more about the SGA.
We will be having our fall elections in September. Election packets will be available within the first few weeks of school for any student interested in joining the Student Government Association. If anyone would like more information, visit our office at Donahue 424.
In some other news, we are planning our Fall Leadership Retreat. The retreat will take place in late September at Thompson Island in Boston Harbor. The retreat is a great way for the members of clubs on campus to work together to build strong relationships. The goal of the retreat, besides personal growth in leadership, is to have the clubs be able to collaborate well with each other during the year.
I also want to inform everyone that P.C. and the SGA will be having their annual wiffleball tournament again this year. Last year was the first year, which went well. So we are excited to have another one.
Finally, the Student Government Association will be having a series of events called Pros, Profs, and Pastries. We are working with the Alumni Association to bring in alumni of Suffolk to talk to students about what they are doing with what they studied. This will be a great networking event for students who might not know what they are going to do with their major. The fist event for the series will be in October.
I am extremely eager for the upcoming year. I know that the SGA has the potential to truly help the students here at Suffolk University. During the upcoming year I will be working to improve the aspects of the SGA that are not up to par. I feel that we need to start forming a relationship with the entire student body. It sometimes amazes me that some students do not know that the organization exists. I look forward to working with all of the students at Suffolk and I hope to talk to many of you next year. Until then, take care.
