Not much change at the top, but plenty of teams have fallen off including the unbearable Red Sox. Here is this week’s MLB Power Rankings.
* LW indicates last week’s rank
1. Texas Rangers (14-4) LW: 1 – Led by Josh Hamilton, the two-time defending AL Champions are the most complete team in baseball and the record shows. - RT
2. St. Louis Cardinals (11-7) LW: 2 – They are the best hitting team in the NL and have an incredible run differential thus far. Recent close losses to the Cubs are not a concern. - MM
3. Detroit Tigers (10-7) LW: 3 – Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander have been the only productive Tigers in the first two weeks of the season. Maybe they’re just a little overrated? Time will tell. - RT
4. Washington Nationals (13-4) LW: 4 – The pitching continues to be incredible -- posting a 2.34 ERA with an opposing team AVG. at .202. - MM
5. New York Yankees (10-7) LW: 7 – I’m starting to wonder if A-Rod brought Derek Jeter over to Germany with him. - RT
6. Los Angeles Dodgers (13-5) LW: 6 – Matt Kemp’s numbers have taken away from the fact that the pitching has been so solid, holding opposing hitters to a .212 AVG. - MM
7. Atlanta Braves (11-7) LW: 10 – In his past seven games, Freddie Freeman batted .478 slugged three home runs and drove in 12 RBIs reassuring all Braves skeptics that they are a contender. - RT
