This week, SGA senator Jeff Cyr sat down with the Voice's Ben Fountain to talk about his candidancy for SGA Vice President.

Cyr talked about the importance of SGA's need to become more transparent in its dealings with the student body, openly criticizing the current administration.

"I've been a senator for a year and a half and I have not seen transparency in the student government," said Cyr, pushing that he would bring "tangible" results, including a tally of weekly senate votes and motions, and feedback options on MySuffolk.

Regarding SGA's on-campus image, Cyr quoted a Suffolk student who told him, "the only people that care about SGA is the people that are in SGA.

"The role for the vice presidency for me is to be a voice for the students. I have not seen that this year with the current vice president or with the administration as a whole. I feel like they have lost touch with reality, with the students, and I feel like that's a problem that needs to be addressed as soon as possible."

Cyr also promised that as SGA Vice President, he would attend one meeting per month for every SGA recognized student group to assist with problems or questions.

"I think that's a big first step right now, is SGA taking the initiative to go out there for the students first."

Cyr also raised questions regarding a failed shuttle bus program for NESAD students that was promised by current Vice President Nick DiZoglio last year.

"[DiZoglio] came up to me and said 'Well the Provost shot it down.' If it was greenlighted before, why wasn't it done?" asked Cyr. "If I'm a student right now, I'm frustrated with it. There were lofty promises made that did not come through."

Cyr favors a walk along program instead of the more expensive shuttle bus, saying that it would be "immediate action taken by the University."
