This year's red carpet style was all about the neutrals; the other end of the color spectrum opposite of the bold colors we are so used to seeing.

Starting off the neutral gown trend in a beautiful Dolce and Gabbana gown was "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland. Despite a slight wardrobe malfunction (back zipper broke), Hyland went on to win the Golden Globe with her fellow cast mates.

Another neutral dress on the 2012 Golden Globes red carpet was seen on Heidi Klum. Her slim-fitting Calvin Klein Collection dress was simple yet elegant and topped off with turquoise accessories for a bold pop of color.

Sofia Vergara chose to wear the other common red carpet trend Sunday night: the mermaid trend. The Vera Wang gown drew even more attention to the comedic star and was an appropriate color for the winter season and for the bright red carpet.

Two stars decided to arrive in full-blown color. Natalie Portman made an impression in the hot-pink Lanvin gown while Reese Witherspoon went with a strapless Zac Posen dress.

Angelina Jolie mixed trends in a gorgeous beige and red Atelier Versace gown. With slight touches of the dramatic red color to the gorgeous champagne colored asymmetrical dress, it was refreshing to see Angelina in a lighter shade for the event on Sunday night.

Nicole Richie stepped out sporting the metallic trend. The silver Julien Macdonald dress stood out in a sea of nude and matte-colored dresses. Someone needs to sparkle on the red carpet!

The red carpet is a place where risks are very commonly taken. After a year filled with successful dresses for Emma Stone, everyone was excited to see what she would wear to the Globes.
In a Lanvin gown, Stone did not disappoint. The deep burgundy color and unique style was perfect for her natural coloring and made her standout from the other "A-listers" on the carpet that evening.
